Rhine Gorge Association

The association «Die Rheinschlucht» was founded on May 13, 2009 and is a consolidation of the nine municipalities which each owns a proportion of the Rhine Gorge area. These are the municipalities Bonaduz, Tamins, Trin, Ilanz, Flims, Laax, Schluein, Sagogn and the municipality Safiental.

According to the articles of the association, the purpose is the development and implementation of a strategy for the Rhine Gorge. The «Ruinaulta-Charta», which was signed on September 29, 2005 is an agreement in principle for the aligned management of the involved municipalities of the Rhine Gorge and provides the basis for the collaboration of the Rhine Gorge municipalities.

Today, the association focuses its activities on working with the various stakeholders to facilitate the use and “experience” of the area, to promote its preservation and to ensure the appropriate coordination. The increasing pressure of use requires targeted area and visitor management, which has been established in recent years in the form of a ranger service.
